Whilst waiting for our coach to leave this morning I pondered the richness of language and reflected that I had not yet heard any of those well known Australian phrases or sayings being uttered and as if by magic I overheard the driver, an Australian say, "Good on ya mate", and I instantly felt enriched!
Today's schedule took in a wildlife park where we came close and personal with a Wombat, Koala Bears and both Grey and Red Kangaroos. Some folk may not approve of wildlife parks and to be frank we did not really have sufficient time to view the vast range of birds and mammals gathered together in one place, but the brief glimpse was satisfying and hopefully we will see further wildlife in their natural habitat as we travel around this huge country.
The long drive past some of the vinyards of the Swan River Valley, through large wheat fields and along the coast through dunes and scrub ended at Cervantes for a visit to the multi million $ Lobster Shack for a tour of the factory and lunch. We then went onto the Pinnacles which were an amazing sight and walking amongst them was an experience which we wished could have been longer. Being in a 4 x 4 coach meant that when we arrived in Lancelin we were able to ride the dunes which was fun though Lesley found it a bit tame after her 4 x 4 adventure in the Arabian Dessert when we were in Dubai. There was also time for us both to try out sand boarding, yes, even I engaged in it (there will be a photo or two and maybe even a short video in due course) and got covered in sand, especially where I had just applied a fresh coat of sun block!
A short stop at a Road Halt en route back to Perth allowed everyone to pay essential visits and buy refreshments and then just chill out in the bus as it motored along with the sun going down to our right. Such a beautiful sunset and wonderful colours in the sky but not possible to photograph well from within the coach. Arriving back in Perth about 2045 we were dropped at our hotel where we made immediate use of the shower after having deposited a huge amount of sand from our clothes and shoes. A very long day but interesting and great we did not have to do any of the driving.
