After a lot of sitting about waiting we boarded our flight from Dubai to Perth and enjoyed a trouble free flight. I am still not indulging my usual appetite but have managed some food in flight and watched several movies not have managed to sleep much during the 10 hours we were in the air.
Passing through customs and their automatic barriers was much quicker than in the UK. Once we got into the concourse we discovered there are very few city buses on Sundays and did not fancy waiting about 4 hours so went to a cash machine to use our worldwide currency card to extract Australian Dollars. Worked fine in Dubai but not in two different machines, tried the currency exchange but they could not give me local currency only change from Australian to something else which was not very helpful. Resorted to old fashioned Nationwide Debit Card and got a taxi to the Goodearth Hotel with partial river views.
Not been able to confirm our tour for tomorrow as the offices are closed on Sundays so no idea where or what time to meet - quick email to Trailfinders, maybe they can assist. Anyway, here we are, in Oz for the very first time, about to check whether the water really does go down the plug hole the other way.

Well the Trailfinders people were excellent and got back to me by email very quickly to let me know we were to be picked up from our hotel at 0730 (ugh!) on Monday morning and the currency card folk sent me an email to let me know they were sorry for any inconvenience and were going to deal with the problem ASAP and gave me some advice when using the card.
ReplyDeleteWe had a very pleasant dinner in the hotel restaurant with a Swan River and city skyline view. We toasted our first night in Oz with a local dry sparkling wine and Lesley feasted on crumbed lamb cutlets on a bed of risotto and I had pan fried Barramundi with a medley of vegetables.
After dinner we took a short stroll along the banks of the river and retired to bed early, though sleeping for very long evaded both of us!
