DAY 47: Sunday is a day of rest and ....

All the excitement has clearly been too much for my system to cope, maybe coupled with the hot weather and air con in van, I have developed what appears to be a summer cold! Have awoken on last two mornings with a dry throat and tickle and begun to develop a husky baritone voice and today Lesley declared, when I awoke from a good long sleep, that I looked dreadful!

Ah well, it is Sunday, we had no particular plans for the day, this site has a spectacular view with shade, Lesley is happy to potter and do odd jobs on camp so we have had a very lazy day.

We had breakfast overlooking Pioneer Valley then I spent a good deal of the day sitting in shade looking out over this same view and watching the shades of green subtlety shift as the light from the sun moved across the blue sky. We also spent time talking with Diane who has strong convictions, told us of staying on the mountain during a force 2 cyclone and seeing into its eye, of folk she had encountered and of her book which she has yet to finish.

We also made the acquaintance of a German couple, their grown up daughter and her boyfriend who had also picked up a hire van from Britz in Brisbane and were on their way to Cairns and, as it turned out, had visited some of the same places as us. They had lived in the DDR, as children and adults, he had done national service, they had all learnt Russian at school as well as German and English and we exchanged information and reminiscences about parts of Germany we had visited last summer, many of them in the former DDR.

I spent some time reviewing an assignment for Siân, editing some photos, generally chilling and especially, taking in the view. As dusk began to fall so the midges and biting things started to emerge so we retired to the safety of the van, more photo editing and blogging and e-stuff using the free wifi provided by the campsite. Lesley prepared a curried vegetable stir fry which I was able to taste but not the subltey of flavours she had created and we continued with post dinner e-stuff then bed. Hopefully, tomorrow, my cold will have improved a bit, I will feel less like a limp rag at times and Lesley's cut finger from tripping over the van threshold and depositing the plates on the floor, will also have healed!
