We arose early, had a quick breakfast and Carmel drove us to the airport for our flight to Brisbaine and our fifth state, Queensland. Checking in for a Qantas flight is really efficient with machines that allow one to print boarding passes and baggage tags and then one uses the automated bag drop kiosks, all very civilised.
On arrival in the baggage hall we were met by John and Gennelle Bain, our hosts for the next week, and whisked off to a mountain view of the city then onto a picnic. It felt very much like being in Britain, sitting under a shelter in the rain! We then drove to their home in Halcyon Waters on the Gold Coast, a modern development for the over 50's. Their home is beautiful with an amazing view over bushland and surrounded by birds.
After a welcome cup of tea with took a walk around the estate and immediately spotted a number of birds we have never see before and a number of kangaroos. It was magic!
We returned home just before the rain and spent time chatting then were treated to a sumptuous dinner all cooked to perfection by Gennelle and accompanied by real champagne and also a Margaret River Savignon Blanc Semilion. A wonderful start to our time in Brissie!
And our smiley hosts, John and Gennelle
