Lesley and I both woke early on this our final morning with John & Gennelle. We breakfasted healthily on a range of tropical fresh fruits followed by home mixed muesli and a Greek yogurt I have grown very fond of as it is very creamy but extremely low fat.
Lesley completed the packing very quickly and once our hosts were ready we filled their cavernous boot with our bags and cases and left for the Britz motorhome depot in Northern Brisbane. Arriving just after 1100, it was clear we were going to have to wait to be checked in, so the Bain's went for coffee, having left too early to enjoy it at their usual time at home.
Once we reached the check-in desk we were dealt with efficiently, in part because I had already completed the initial registration online after breakfast, told about various optional extras we could purchase for our trip then given a portable player and DVD relevant to the model of van we were hiring and invitd on a virtual adventure with a make believe couple who cleverly made use of all of the van's facilities during their trip. Quite a novel way of providing all of the necessary information and once we were handed the van's keys we noted a USB key attached that contains the video so we can watch it again at any time during our actual trip to remind us how things work. This of course assumes you are able to operate the tv, once found on its slide out bracket in a cupboard next to the kitchen.
Once we had been shown around the van by a member of the Britz 'crew' and they had made a careful note of any prior damage, we were ready to leave the depot. We did not travel far as we had agreed to have lunch with John & Gennelle in a nearby restaurant once we had successfully parallel parked the 6 metres of van. Lunch was tasty with a river view but all too soon it was time to say goodbye to our lovely hosts who showed us to our turn off to the Sunshine Coast whilst they returned to their home in the Gold Coast.
The roads were relatively clear as we made our way towards Noosa, through forests with views of tree covered mountains to the West but under ever darkening skies. We stopped at Cooroy to shop for groceries then headed for Boreen Point using our Tom Tom to guide us to a campsite by the beach. By the time we arrived it was beginning to rain quite heavily but the warden seemed pleased as they had seen almost no rain for so long, even though we had experienced it just 150 km away on the Gold Coast.
Our pitch was on a hard standing close to the amenities and a camp kitchen. We put the kettle on for tea then set about unpacking our belongings into various cupboards, lockers and drawers which was achieved quite quickly then I cooked a camp style supper of hot dogs and coleslaw. We did a little planning for the next two days of travel and as we had become accustomed to going to bed and rising early whilst with John & Gennelle, we retired before 2230.
