Another bright sunny day. We have been so lucky with the weather in Melbourne. Neither too hot nor wet, just about right to enable us to get out and about every day. After breakfast we Facetimed with John and Gennelle Bain our next hosts and then departed for a walk in Yarra Bend Park.
Yesterday we had been further up the valley visiting vineyards, today we were just a few kilometres from the CBD of Melbourne and apart from the sound of traffic on the freeway we were surrounded by woods, a variety of birds and the River Yarra. The sun shone, we heard the 'tinkling bells' of Australian Bell Birds and found the waterfall and had a thoroughly good time. Retracing our steps we arrived back at the Boathouse where suitable refreshments revived us and Carmel suggested going to find some cows in Heide Park.
She recalled finding these cows when her children were younger in the early 1990's and there they were, albeit with somewhat faded colours. A large number of other sculptures were found in the park alongside the much narrower River Yarrow, as we were slightly further upstream, and some beautiful trees. All of which provided a number of photo opportunities, some of which will be found on my Flickr site.
We returned home to the balcony for a cup of tea, then packed ready for an earlyish start to the airport tomorrow, our time in Melbourne with Carmel almost at an end, but not before we enjoyed one of the tastiest Thai meals I have had just across the road at NAKORN SIAM with a suitable bottle of Sauvignon Blanc Semillion. We have had a wonderful time in and around Melbourne thanks in great part to Carmel who I first met at a confence in Calgary in 1997. She has been an excellent host, we have felt welcomed, relaxed and have enjoyed the many sights and sounds she has shared with us.
