A lazy start to the day, blessed by sunshine and blue skies, breakfast on the patio, an abundance of bird calls and then Lesley spots a Kookaburra! We have seen a number of exotic birds and iconic Australian animals in our time here and although we did not have a camera to hand it was great to watch this bird and later in the morning hear it's laughing call.
We had a relaxed morning editing photos and chatting and Lesley made use of the washing machine. After coffee, Gennelle allowed me to help her make some Lamingtons, an Australian cake creation involving moist sponge, covered in chocolate and coconut. I think I will make some for our next music session at home.
We then drove to Sanctuary Cove, a nearby settlement of luxury houses and yachts to George's Paragon Fish & Seafood Restaurant. The menu was extensive with lots of local seafood and we all sampled Moreton Bay Bugs, a small lobster like crustacean. The service was excellent and precise, the venue reminiscent of the Mediteranean, or Greece perhaps, the food very well cooked and the company second to none. Just as we were leaving the restaurant a Heron treated us to a fishing display which I just managed to capture on camera.
We window shopped in a variety of stores but managed to avoid actually purchasing anything, we have no room for any souvenirs in our cases anyway, then returned home to rest. Lesley did some ironing, making us all ready for the next stage of our trip up the East Coast in a motorhome on Monday, whilst Gennelle rushed about in connection with a Community Car Rally and sausage sizzle later in the afternoon.
John and I attempted to overcome the user interface of Apple to allow us to access a file on the web and copy it to an SD card for the Nikon to update location data but to no avail! Being user friendly really means not allowing anyone to see any file structures thus preventing us from doing something a Windows based system would easily facilitate. Still, I am pleased I decided not to bring my Dell notepad along as this would have added to the weight I would have to carry in my in-flight bag.
Later in the afternoon we joined a large number of the Halcyon Community in celebration of their first car rally. Apparently, some 25+ vehicles took part including a Morgan and a Lincoln Sedan on a 90km rally with a series of cryptic clues to be solved. Some sounded really difficult and out of a possible score of 93 the winners only scored 69, just one point more than second place. There was much merriment as some of the day's faux pas were read out then a compass was awarded to the team with the lowest score and prizes for third and second with the winning team receiving a trophy and bottle of Australian Sparkling Wine which they shared with Lesley and I as honoured visitors.
The sausages with onions were a hit with most people, not sure if there were any vegetarian options, and the whole event brought folk together and many welcomed and spoke with us about our and their travels.
Returning home we were shown the Lincoln Sedan that was kept in excellent condition and enjoyed a cup of tea with the home made Lamingtons.
