We boarded our flight and being fairly empty we found we had a row of three seats to ourselves so spread out a bit. We both had some sleep, still managed a film or two and were fed breakfast. Is it only Emirates who simulate stars in the sky on their cabin ceilings when travelling at night? They got progressively dimmer as dawn approached and then the cabin lights were switched on as breakfast was served.
We landed on time, were reunited with our baggage, last seen at the check in desk in Singapore and then to our complete surprise, as we made our way into the arrivals area, there was Joanna! She had decided to get up very early and driven to Gatwick to collect us. What a star!
Arriving home we discovered Siân, who had been in London and staying in the house, had pre-cooked pancakes and a fruit compote and Amanda looked after us whilst we chatted about our trip, her recent play and new flat.
During the hours that followed Lesley began the unpacking and washing cycle. I got to see Amanda's flat when we visited to enable a visit from a double glazing firm. We ate dinner together, that good old fashioned comfort food of baked potatoes and sausages, with a salad to ensure we got our five a day.
Lesley was first to go to bed but I followed soon afterwards when my body said, enough of today, time for bed and anyway, I had a meeting in Birmingham the next day so had to be up at 0600.
