All my chores accomplished

It is a good feeling when all of the things one sets out to do in a day get done, the secret is to ensure you do not make too long a list in the knowledge you will probably have the time and energy to complete them all! Some years ago I used to make impossibly long lists, spent a lot of time each day doing things that needed to be done but were not on the list and then at the end of the day I still had a long list and, though I had been busy, it felt as if i had achieved nothing! Frustrating!

On Saturday I wanted to go food shopping, taking into consideration the 'music at home' session on Sunday, clean and tidy the patio so if the weather is good we can start the music outside, cook the sponge cake for the Lamingtons.

Whilst it was quite a long day, with Lesley's help the patio got its annual pressure wash but with some detergent as I had fixed the intake hose. It now looks amazingly clean once more and the stone slabs have returned almost to their original light Cotswold yellow colour. There is still a lot of tidying to do in the garden but that was not on the list so it will have to wait for another day.

The food shopping was done and surprisingly, there was not a crowd in the supermarket. Maybe everyone has gone away as Schools, Colleges and Universities are on holiday and I even got change out of £100.

I followed the recipe that Gennelle had given me for Lamingtons but I am not used to using 'cup' measures and I do not think each egg weighed 50g. I tried to be accurate with my measurements but think the mixture was probably too dry as it had a stiff dropping consistency. It needed a lot of help getting it out of the bowl and I do not have a proper Lamington tin so made do with a suitable sized baking tray. Anyway, when cooked, although the tray cake was not an even depth right to the edges, it is probably okay and the corner that broke off tastes fine if a little denser than Gennelle's.

So three things on my list, all completed and I was chef this evening and cooked cauliflower cheese with oven roasted plum tomatoes. All tasted fine, helped along with a chilled 2011 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine from Domaine Michel David, purchased on a cheap foraging trip to France on Le Shuttle in November.

I went to bed tired and accomplished and do not recall much after my head hit the pillow!
